About Lit Protocol

Lit Protocol is a decentralized key management and encrypted compute network that powers automation, privacy, and interoperability across crypto and AI. At its core, Lit enables developers to program and coordinate secrets—private keys, credentials, and encrypted data—without introducing single points of failure. The network provides the cryptographic foundation for applications, wallets, and agents to operate securely across chains and systems.

Lit Protocol solves one of Web3’s fundamental dilemmas: how to manage secrets without compromising on security, user experience, or decentralization. Instead of relying on a single server or custody provider, Lit distributes trust across a network of independent nodes that collectively perform cryptographic operations. These nodes use multi-party computation (MPC) and threshold signature schemes (TSS) running inside trusted execution environments (TEEs) to jointly produce signatures or decryptions without any single node ever holding a full private key. The coordination, membership, and behavior of these nodes are orchestrated via smart contracts, ensuring transparency, auditability, and on-chain accountability. This architecture enables users and developers to achieve the security of hardware-grade isolation with the openness of decentralized networks.

Built on top of this foundation is Vincent, one of the flagship products in the Lit ecosystem. Vincent bridges the trust gap between users and autonomous agents by introducing a secure, programmable layer for authorization. Instead of granting broad permissions to off-chain bots or AI systems, users can delegate narrowly scoped rights—such as signing a transaction, accessing a data feed, or executing a DeFi strategy—under explicit conditions enforced by Lit’s distributed key network. These permissions, called Abilities, combine the cryptographic guarantees of Lit with verifiable logic to ensure that automations act within user-defined boundaries. By integrating with smart wallets and DeFi protocols, Vincent turns agent-driven automation into a transparent, auditable, and user-controlled experience.

Governance and incentives are structured through veLITKEY, Lit’s voting-escrow model inspired by mechanisms like Curve’s veCRV and Aerodrome’s veAERO. Holders of the LITKEY token can lock their tokens to gain voting power over reward allocations and ecosystem incentives. Unlike inflationary emissions, Lit’s reward model is sustained by network revenues—fees generated by node operators, builders, and applications using the network’s programmable signing and encryption services. This aligns long-term incentives between participants who contribute to the network’s security, utility, and growth. veLITKEY ensures that those most invested in Lit’s future also govern its evolution, directing rewards to the builders and agents that create real value.

Together, the Lit Protocol network, Vincent ecosystem, and veLITKEY governance form the foundation of an uncaptured, autonomous cloud—a cryptographically enforced coordination layer for humans and machines. By merging MPC, encrypted compute, and on-chain governance, Lit makes it possible to automate safely, interoperate freely, and build systems that remain in the hands of their users.
