About Massa

Audit information available

What is the project about?

Massa is a Layer 1 blockchain designed to achieve a high level of decentralization through its Blockclique architecture, which combines transaction sharding with a multithreaded block graph. The network aims to provide a scalable and resilient consensus layer capable of supporting on-chain applications without relying on external servers.

What makes the project unique?

Massa includes Autonomous Smart Contracts and the Decentralized Web (DeWeb), both live on mainnet. Autonomous Smart Contracts operate directly on-chain without off-chain triggers. DeWeb allows websites and applications to be hosted on the blockchain itself, providing an alternative to traditional web infrastructure and reducing dependency on centralized platforms.

Project history

Massa originated as a research effort in 2017 and was formally established in 2020. The project raised 5 million euros from investors including BlueYard, Acecap, Numeus, and Ariane Capital. Development has focused on delivering a decentralized execution environment and an on-chain web layer.

What’s next for the project?

Future work includes expanding DeWeb capabilities, improving developer tools, and strengthening autonomous execution. Massa Labs is also developing Gossip, a decentralized pseudonymous messaging protocol with post-quantum encryption and sealed metadata, designed to operate independently from centralized communication services.
