About Nillion
What Is Nillion (NIL)?
Nillion is the blind computer – a private computation and storage network for AI and data. The network uses PETs (Privacy-Enhancing Technologies) to enable computation and storage on data while maintaining privacy, making possible use cases like private personalized AI, encrypted databases, and privacy-preserving applications.
NIL is the native utility token of the network that is used for:
-
Network fees for blind computation and payments across the Coordination Layer and Petnet
-
Staking to secure the network
-
Governance participation the onchain governance module
NIL enables access to Nillion modules and services such as:
-
nilDB: an encrypted database with data split up across multiple nodes. Calculations can still be performed on data while in encrypted form.
-
nilAI: AI-focused privacy technologies that include AI Virtual Machine (AIVM), nada-AI, and nilTEE
-
nilVM: VM with libraries that simplify program development for AI devs by letting them use Python and Javascript to write web3 programs.
Who Are the Founders of Nillion?
Nillion was co-founded by Andrew Masanto, Miguel de Vega, Alexander Page, Andrew Yeoh, and Tristan Litré.
Andrew Masanto, co-founder of Hedera Hashgraph, met Dr. Miguel de Vega in 2018, and in 2021, Dr. Miguel de Vega shared an innovation breakthrough around securing private data. Andrew invited his long time friends and ex-investment bankers Alexander Page and Andrew Yeoh alongside Tristan Litré to shape the nascent technology into the current Nillion protocol.
The project has attracted some of the top talent in tech, including the Founding Engineer of Uber (Conrad Whelan), Founder of Indiegogo (Slava Rubin), Associate General Counsel of Coinbase (Lindsay Danas Cohen), Head of Innovation Partnerships at Nike (Mark McDermott) and several other high profile team members and advisors.
