About tBTC

What Is tBTC?

tBTC is a trust-minimized and decentralized Bitcoin onchain that allows Bitcoin holders to use their BTC across multiple blockchains, decentralized finance, and other financial markets. Each tBTC token is fully backed one-to-one by native Bitcoin held in a decentralized custody network secured by a rotating group of independent node operators through threshold cryptography.

Existing Bitcoin bridge solutions often rely on centralized custodians. In those systems, users must send their Bitcoin to an intermediary in exchange for a token equivalent that represents the original asset. This model introduces trust assumptions, exposes users to counterparty and censorship risks, and ultimately undermines Bitcoin’s purpose as a sovereign, secure, and permissionless digital asset.

tBTC eliminates these risks. It provides a decentralized, trust-minimized bridge that enables Bitcoin holders to unlock their BTC’s value for borrowing, lending, liquidity provision, and participation in a wide range of DeFi and financing opportunities without giving up control of their Bitcoin.

Built for scalability and institutional readiness, tBTC is expanding Bitcoin’s economic presence beyond the Bitcoin network. By enabling secure, transparent, and programmable use of Bitcoin across multiple chains, tBTC is helping establish the foundation for broader institutional adoption and the growth of a truly interconnected Bitcoin economy.
